Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy treatment involves the intradermal injection of small amounts of different substances with variations depending on the problem to be treated: lipolytic, firming, revitalizing, anti-wrinkle.
Injections can be performed in two basic ways:
- Manually
- With assisted injection equipment (guns)
The gun used when injecting, provides advantages over manual injection, which depends upon a good injective technique:
- standardizes the procedure, always injecting
– The exact amount (same dosses)
– To the appropriate depth
– At the same depth
- Improved patient comfort (reducing pain to be a quick, short and precise shot)
Advantage
One of the biggest advantages of mesotherapy is that it is a minimally invasive procedure. It is a painless technique, since it is a very superficial treatment and not much medication is injected. Besides it does not require long recovery times or specific post- treatment care. This is a focused treatment, i.e., applied specifically into the problem. It can be applied anywhere on the body except for the breasts.
Number of sessions required
Obviously depends on the pathology to be treated. For the particular case of cellulite, usually 6 sessions are required at monthly intervals. We recommend maintenance sessions (one session per month for 1 year).
Mesotherapy Procedure
The dermatologist will apply an anaesthetic cream to your skin for 45 minutes before your treatment to numb the treatment area. Mesotherpy in the treatment of ageing skin aims to replace minerals, vitamins and amino acids that are found in lower levels in skin, which lessen as we age. It involves the injection of a specially prepared mixture of medications, placed just under the skin into the problematic area. Just a “drop” of solution is used at each injection site. The idea is that you can get these active substances to the site requiring treatment by directly injecting them there.
Downtime
After the treatment you can go back to your daily activities almost immediately. Possible side effects are small bruises, which vanish in a few days, and a little swelling in the injected area, which remains for about 12 – 36 hours.
Pain Free procedure
Treatment is not painful but slight discomfort will be experienced. The treatment is relatively pain free and the anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand to reduce any discomfort that may be caused.
Outpatient procedure
The treatment takes 20-30 minutes depending on the area that is being treated. The face usually takes about 20 minutes. The neck takes approximately a further ten minutes. Mesotherapy for the hand and décolletage take 10 to 15 minutes for each area.
Sessions
The treatment is usually performed over an initial series of one session per week for 4-6 weeks. Results are then maintained by touch-up sessions. The initial bio-revitalisation treatment course consists of 3 sessions, 1 month apart then 3 – 4 times yearly for maintenance.
Results
You can see the first lifting effect straight away, as a result of needle’s stimulation. Results vary depending on your body type and the condition being treated, it can take up to a week before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen. For certain conditions, patients see results after the first session.
Effects of mesotherapy
The results from a mesotherapy treatment are permanent. As it is a repair of the skin it does not revert after a given time period. Mesotherapy for fine lines and wrinkles will improve the skin; however it will not stop skin ageing and new lines forming.
Post Mesotherapy
After your Mesotherapy face treatment your doctor will put on a barrier repair cream to encourage the repair of the skin. A sunscreen is also recommended to wear between treatments. This helps protect the skin and provide optimum conditions for the skin to repair itself.
After Mesotherapy face & body treatment we advise to avoid massages, beauty treatments in the week following the treatment. Contact sport, excessive exercise, hot baths, sauna/steam, are not recommended for a week following a treatment. Your doctor will advise if there are any specific requirements during your recovery period.
Side effects of mesotherapy
Side effects of Mesotherapy are minimal. There could be some redness, tenderness and swelling on the treated area immediately after the injection. You might also feel an itching sensation. All side effects should subside after a couple of hours.
Post treatment you may experience any of the following: mild swelling, redness, slight discomfort, tenderness or bruising at the injection site.During this period camouflage or foundation can be used.
