PRP for Hair loss

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy Injections are a proven hair loss treatment that can regenerate and promote hair growth for men and women by using your own plasma and growth factors to target areas of hair loss.

Dermatologists use PRP to encourage the growth of thinning hair and promote the growth of transplanted hair. Hair follicles survive on the nutrition they get from the blood supply. What is Platelet Rich Plasma and how does it work?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is concentrated blood plasma (composition of blood) that contains approximately five times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood. Apart from red blood cells and white blood cells, our blood also contains cells known as platelets.

Human blood mainly contains red blood cells (93%), white blood cells (1%) and platelets (6%) and all of them are suspended in plasma. However, during platelet rich plasma skin therapy, the red blood cell count is reduced to 5%, that of platelets is raised to 94% while the white blood cells counts remain constant.

The function of platelets is to promote healing and aid in the clotting of blood at the site of a wound. Platelets contain growth factors that promote regeneration of the cells in the body, including the area of damaged hair follicles. It is understood that PRP increases blood flow and reduces inflammation around the follicle.

The Procedure and Recovery

PRP Therapy is a very simple and safe procedure where blood is taken from the patient just like in a regular blood test. Then the blood is put into a centrifugal machine and spun. This facilitates the separation of blood and then the platelet rich plasma is collected and injected into the desired area.

PRP treatment for hair rejuvenation involves the injection of a patient’s own plasma and growth factors into the to improve hair density and the acceleration of hair growth in order to improve the appearance of hair thickness and condition.

The treatment takes as little as 30 minutes and patients usually start with a course of three treatments, 2-4 weeks apart. Most patients start to see early stage improvement from 3-6 months and the full effect from 6-12 months. However, it is important to know that top-up treatments are required for maintenance of thicker, fuller hair.

You can immediately return to your normal daily routine although strenuous activity and alcohol consumption should be avoided for 24 hours post procedure.
